Life Coaching for Expat Executives & Experts
Life Coaching for Expat Executives & Experts

I help expatriates feel at home in Amsterdam

With structured coaching and mentoring, based on the stage of their expat journey.

Professionals who move to other countries often experience that their expat life is fundamentally different from what they had thought it would be.

They sense a lack of connection, an imbalance, an arbitrariness.

Some will just shelter in their expat-bubble or bury themselves in work. Others want to take steps to connect with their new environment.

I help these expatriates with the systematic approach used by other professionals in all kinds of difficult situations.

I am an experienced executive and coach. And an expat.

With over 30 years of experience in international business and 20 years of living outside my home country, I am deeply aware of the challenges that executives and experts face when living abroad.

Since 2012, I have been studying the field of Individual Psychology and the basic principles of human perception and motivation. I have been certified as an Individual Psychology Coach by x+1 Akademie and am currently completing my Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching at Henley Business School.

I am leveraging this experience to help feel fellow expatriates more connected in Amsterdam.

This is what we will do together, and these are the steps that I offer to you:

Get a grip on the situation

Get a handle on the situation by establishing the facts and securing the most vital areas.

When things are okay, except they are not okay, how do you find out what the real problem is?

You cannot assess what's going on when you are sitting still.

This special coaching helps you get out of your stasis and look at the most relevant aspects of your expat existence in Amsterdam, the things that you feel you are missing, and the problems you can solve right away.

We will take a walk in six of the most beautiful parks in Amsterdam, while generating a realistic outlook and new perspectives on six areas of your life, and agree on concrete steps that help you be more at ease in your expat life.

Crack that one key problem

Identify the single most pressing issue and focus all of your energy on solving it.

If it were easy to really feel at home, far from home, you would have already solved this puzzle.

Some problems are really hard by nature, and solving them on your own tends to be elusive.

It takes time and persistence to get to a solution, and a mentor and guide who keeps you on track, encourages you, and provides those vital pointers that you might have been missing. And you might need to get your hands dirty – figuratively and literally.

This is coaching and mentoring in six sessions to help you solve your single most relevant issue and take a major step towards feeling at home.

Develop your boundless vision

With new insight and stability, build a realistic and inspiring vision for your future.

How do we determine what we really want and where we really want to go?

Instead of watching inspirational videos that flood your mind with other people's ideas: How about casting off and spending a long evening out on boat, detached from limitations and surrounded by endless horizons?

How about becoming the captain of your own fate, and using a skilled navigator to help reflect and explore methodically where you want to go and how to take that first crucial step?

This is a single, impactful coaching and mentoring session, out on a boat in the Markermeer, free from physical and mental confinements.

Who is this for?

You are a seasoned executive or expert and have moved to Amsterdam. Or you are the spouse of an expat tagging along on this adventure abroad.

You have arrived in Amsterdam, and things are broadly sorted. However, you come to realize that something is missing. As soon as you leave your expat bubble, there is a growing sense of unease:

  • It's hard to feel connected when you barely speak the language.
  • A lack of cultural background makes you feel inferior when trying to interact naturally.
  • The reputation that you took for granted in your hometown does not mean anything here.
  • Your spouse and children are suddenly on a trajectory that seems to be taking them further away from you.
  • And old connections to family, friends, and colleagues at home become virtualized, sporadic, stretched.

You want to take responsibility for your future and you want to drive meaningful change in your life.

To achieve that, you are looking for a professional coach who can help you uncover deep personal insights and unlock your energies.

And you are also looking for an experienced mentor who has been there and done that, to provide perspectives, pointers, and impulses to ensure you start with steps that work so you do not waste time.

If this is you, contact me for a first, free conversation.

Are you managing or supporting expatriate employees in Amsterdam?

Whether you have the responsibility for expatriate executives or experts as a manager, or support them as part of the HR team, you will come across situations where your highly valued employees struggle with their life far from home.

This can lead to declining performance and ultimately to attrition.

I provide consultation for managers and HR representatives to help them understand the situation of expats and to find ways to encourage them, make them feel at home, and ensure ongoing engagement and retention.

I also provide group coaching and mentoring for expatriate executives and experts in companies.
